San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas, México
The organizations present at the SPPNA (Security and Prosperity
Partnership of North America) Workshop, celebrated August 13th and
14th, 2007, at CIDECI, A.C. in San Cristóbal de Las Casas,
Chiapas, Mexico, make it known to social organizations, organized
groups, local, national and international media, and to the community
at large that:
We manifest
our absolute refusal of the SPPNA and the Summit in between Felipe
Calderon of Mexico, Stephen Harper of Canada, George W. Bush of
the USA and the CEOs of the largest multinational corporations of
these three countries, where they will seek to continue to impose
their security and their prosperity, which will take place on the
20th and 21st of this month in Montebello, Quebec, Canada.
We support the
actions of the compañeros of the Other Campaign and of other
organizations who will mobilize in Canada to express their indignation
to this neoliberal strategy; as well as with all those who share
this same feeling of indignation and anger, since the SPPNA undermines
the life and security of communities and indigenous peoples along
with all our natural resources, which are also the sustenance of
future generations.
In order to
protect their anti-democratic and secret meetings, the chief executives
and the corporations have implemented an excessive police and military
operation. We know they have initiated their harassment against
various compañeros. We demand full respect of the democratic
freedoms of expression and mobilizations.
Amongst the
actions to take against the SPPNA we propose the following:
· Construct
and strengthen local, national and international unity
· Use the weapons of reason, conscious and intelligence to
lead our actions in a non-violent path without falling into provocations
so that our voice be heard
· Disseminate information on the SPPNA beginning in our families,
communities, and peoples.
We ask that
you be attentive and alert to what may happen in the near future.
